Bi-weekly Beaut-itorial & SUMMER SENIOR SPECIAL

I've got some good stuff & some good stuff for you today!

What better way to kick off summer than with an awesome deal? 2015 seniors, I've got one for YOU!

YAY! GLAM sessions are my favorite! Don't wait to book your session, I have limited spots open!

On to the other 'good stuff'...the bi-weekly beaut-itorial by Lindsay! P.S. sorry for the funky layout and spacing..I have no clue what blogger is doing, it looks so much better as a draft and I can't fix it :/

As a Makeup artist I constantly have clients and friends asking me what products I use at home. I have decided to compose a list of some of the beauty products I just cannot live without.
#1- Neutrogena Oil free Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash. I was not blessed with good skin; in fact since adolescence I have been battling overly oily skin, and acne. I found that this scrub works very well in combination with my skin. They also make one without the exfoliating beads for those who prefer their face wash with out them. I actually use them both.
#2- Nerium AD Night cream & Day cream. I began using these products about a year ago, and the results have been incredible, almost unbelievable. I don't dare go to bed at night without the anti aging night cream, it not only reduces aging lines, but it also has reduced the size of my pore and has kept my acne at bay. I am young enough that I really don’t have a lot of aging lines, but I am counting on keeping them away as I get older with this product. The Day cream has also been amazing, I normally go for an oil free moisturizer, but now I am using the day cream. The Day Cream makes an amazing primer and helps my makeup stay put. These products have been a life changer.

#3- Physicians Formula Twins Concealer. This concealer is my favorite. I use the yellow to lighten and brighten up the under eye area, and the twin side of the concealer to cover blemishes. This product is relatively inexpensive and can be found at most major supermarkets.

#4- Urban Decay Eye Primer. One of the biggest complaints I get from friends about their make up is that their eye make up does not stay put, and creases mid day. This is the eye primer I use at home and with it I never have that problem.

#5- Divine Line by CoastalScents.com. This Gel eyeliner is my absolute favorite. It goes on nice and smooth and has incredible longevity. I can't tell you how many clients of mine have raved about how well their eyeliner stayed throughout the day or their special event. Yep, it's a good one.

#6- CoverGirl Brow & Eye Makers. This is what I use to fill in my eyebrows. Yes it's an inexpensive drug store brand, but it works. If you would like some tips on how to use it refer to the eyebrow Beaut-itorial.

#7- Bare Minerals Well Rested. This is an amazing eye highlighter/eye brightener. I love using this in combination with the physician’s formula concealer to hide any dark circles.

#8- Egg shaped makeup sponge. I love these sponges; they are perfect for getting into the edges on your face.

#9- Angle Brush. This is the very angle brush that I use. I can't even tell you how many different purposes it has. I use this brush for eyebrow powder, eye-lining, and eye makeup. I could not live without it.

#10- Bare Minerals Matte powder foundation. I use this powder for setting my foundation, and because I have oily skin, yes I get the Matte. This powder does a great job and setting my makeup and keeping it in place.

#11- Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing sheets. These sheets are a must have, especially if you have oily skin. You simply take one out, dab it on your face and then reapply your powder. It’s a great way of freshening up your face mid day.

#12-NYX Matte Lip Cream. This lip cream is my new favorite thing to wear on my lips. When it comes to make up I often tell my clients to either play up their eyes or play up their lips, but never both. Most days I chose to play up my eyes and go with a soft, nude, matte lip. I have this lip cream in many different colors but I would have to say that my favorites are Stockholm, Abu Dhabi, and London. The color has great longevity, and if you prefer a gloss, you can always finish it off with a clear lip shine.

#13- NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray. Once I have all my makeup completed I use NYX's setting spray to set my makeup for the day. I simply pump it a few times and mist it over my face. This product really does give your makeup more longevity.

Bi-weekly Beaut-itorial

I am SO excited to start this Bi-weekly Beaut-itorial on my blog!  I don't want to start rambling about my excitement, so let's just get to it!

Ladies....Please meet my GLAM Session Hair & Makeup Artist, Lindsay!  She will be giving us tips, tricks, and answering questions if you have them twice a month, here on the blog!  Not only is she a great makeup artist, but she can draw too (see below)! ;)   If you have any questions on hair, make up, application, product, etc. please leave a comment so she can address it in a future blog post!

ENJOY!

Okay, lets talk about one of my favorite beauty subjects, eyebrows. It is truly amazing how much properly shaped eyebrows will open up the eyes; it's almost like an instant eyelift. Since the eyebrows frame the eyes, they are one of the first things people see when they look at you; they are the part of the face that conveys such a large amount of your facial expression and emotion. Eyebrows are often neglected, but are such an important part of the beauty regimen.
Not all eyebrow shapes are created equally. Some clients walk in with the perfect natural arch, while others have strait or boxy looking eyebrows that require more attention and maintenance. Those who have thick eyebrows with a good natural arch can usually get away with minimal trimming and plucking or waxing; usually once about every 6 weeks. For those who need more help it’s usually a good idea to start off seeking consultation from someone who knows eyebrows and have them show you how to achieve the best eyebrow shape possible for you. As an eyebrow consultant, I usually start by showing my client where the base, tail, and arch of the eyebrow should be based on the shape of their face. Next I wax the brows, giving them as much arch as possible without going too thin; followed by trimming them. Then I suggest options on how to enhance their eyebrows with makeup each day while doing your beauty routine. The most common mistakes I see when it comes to eyebrow shaping is taking them too thin, taking too much off of the base, or drawing them on too sharp.

There are many options on filling in or shaping eyebrows. There are Pencils and powders, and even stencils for those who need the extra help. It can be overwhelming knowing exactly what to use to fill in your brows. I normally suggest selecting a powder or pencil than is the same tone as your hair, but about two shades darker than the hair-color. I personally use a cover girl pencil in the color midnight-brown.

The best way to find the look you prefer is just through trial and error. If you don't know how to use pencil properly, the results can be lined eyebrows that look too sharp and harsh. When I fill in my own brows I do what I call “hair strokes” following the natural growth pattern of your eyebrows. If you feel like that is too much work for you, then powder may be the way to go. If you feel like you need a stencil, they can be found at most beauty supply stores. And when it comes down to it, don't get discouraged if you can’t get them perfectly symmetrical, it takes a lot of practice to get them close. Eyebrows are more like sisters rather than twins anyway and you will never get them absolutely perfect. I promise you though--if you keep practicing and add eyebrow care to your beauty routine, you will be pleased with the results.

I'm SUCH a L.O.S.E.R. | Northern Utah Photographer

My husband is that guy. That guy who calls into the radio station and wins free concert tickets every time he tries.  That guy who wins free CD's (or did when they were still 'cool').  That guy who wins a free iFlip camera. He calls. He wins. He enters. He wins. I, however, NEVER win.
I've come to terms with who I am.  Or better yet, what I am.

A   L.O.S.E.R.

I can't remember if I've ever mentioned how much of a book worm I am (I know I know, not helping my loser status and I promise it will all make sense in the end).  Well, I am. When my photography business 'slowed' down for the winter last year, I read 22 series.  Not books, series. I simply love to read. All. The. Time.

If you haven't read any of Maria V. Snyder's books, do it. Now. Turn off your computer. Go to your local library, or grab your kindle, or even just head here to read a free short story. You think I'm kidding, and I'm not. You will thank me for it. I promise.

...You're Welcome...

Maria Snyder is, without a doubt my favorite author. No one has come close to beating her out in my own personal 'author's hall of fame'. I've read multiple series' of hers, more than once...& I'm just dying for December to get here..the next book of my favorite series is being released.  ;)

A few weeks ago on Maria's Facebook page, she asked what her fans' favorite short story was and why.  She was going to pick winner's to give her book series too. Yes, I've already own them all. Yes, I still answered.

   Guess what?  I won.

Now, you're probably thinking, okay weirdo, this does not qualify to un-loser you. That's okay. Not only did I win, but I won one of my all time favorite book series.  To me, that is a HUGE, and a very exciting thing. I'm half tempted to buy some of those 3D display boxes, hang them on my living room wall, with giant vinyl above them that says, 'Yeah...I WON'.

In all reality, I won't go to that extreme (because I'm sure my husband would leave immediately after seeing them and come right back home with divorce papers) but I will likely display them in my home somewhere. :)

This post really has no big point. I just had to share with someone who cares (or maybe you don't)  that I finally won...Watch out world...My 'loser' status is slowly changing.  ;)

Julie Parker | Get Schooled

If you haven't heard of Julie Parker before, you're missing out. She is a celebrity in my world. I adore her and her work more than words can say.  I 'discovered' JP 4 or 5 years ago. I have been a blog stalker ever since.  3 years ago, when I decided to do photography as a business, not just for myself, I decided I NEEDED to take the 'Get Schooled' workshop taught by my photog idol. Every year, when she would post, I would beg, plead and beg some more with my husband to let me attend...For one reason or another, it wasn't ever a possibility. I helped JP with a wedding last spring, and learned a lot from her then...BUT, I still wanted the Get Schooled JP experience. Well, JP announced that this 2013 Get Schooled Workshop was going to be her LAST. My heart stopped a little, and I signed up without a second thought. SO glad that I did.  The models were gorgeous. We had lots of fun. AND we learned some photog/business goodness.

Here is a link to Julie Parker's images from the workshop (group shot included)!
Here is link to the wonderful cake maker. They were DELICIOUS!
Here is a link to the awesome boutique that has the dark grey and orange/grey dresses.
Here is the link for the talented hair/MUA who worked with Shay.
Models: Shay Peck (red hair) & Kenzie Call (blonde).

Here's JP making her magic!

About Me

I'm in this for the long haul, and I'm glad you've joined me.
