The 'Crop Factor' | Cache Valley Photographer

{Ring Ring}
Me: Olo? I mean hello?
Client: OMG. You're so weird. Any ways, I'm at ___________ printing off pictures from our session with you a few months back. I've finally got all my frames picked out, but the prints are chopping off Bob's head in one, and in the large group, there's 2 people missing!
Me: Are you trying to print 8 x 10?
Client: Yes
Me: At Walmart?  (ANY other 'convenient lab' is the SAME deal)..
Client: Yes
Me: {having small heart attack}. When pictures are taken, SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) they are always in a ratio 2:3 (4x6, 8x12 crops, etc). So, cropping an 8 x 10 images is going to crop off a lot more than a 5 x 7. Get it?
Client: Uhhhh No.
Me: hmmmmm...

Well, well, well, let me SHOW you what I mean!  :)

There are many reasons I discourage printing at labs such as Walmart, Costco, Walgreens, Sam's Club, Snapfish, etc. BUT I have 2 in particular that I would hope, pray, and beg you not to.  If you've purchased a print release from Rachel Eve Photography for your images, you will be allowed to print literally anywhere. When you do, please keep this 'crop factor' in mind. Color Correction is the other reason I would hope, pray, and beg you not to use these labs..I'll have a blog post on that one here soon. Two of the quickest ways to ruin an amazing photo. Convenient labs usually do not let you chose the crop, which is why 'Bob' is missing or Sally's head is only partially there vs. the image on your digital collection. These labs will not care if your family portrait is ruined. You may pay less, but, you get what you pay for.

A cute girl with a special project...| Northern Utah Photographer

Spring is FINALLY here! Wahoo!!!! Is any one else enjoying it as much as I am? I don't even mind the rain..in fact, I love a good storm here and there...just as long as it's not on a day I've got a session scheduled!  ;)  Unless of course, I have some totally willing, free-to-do-whatever clients...then, I'm game.

See this babe?

She's from Cedar City..Nope, these are not her senior pictures. Her mom is actually a photographer down south and so she got the privilege to take her daughters senior photos..how cool is that? I can only hope my little one will let me take hers in...15 years?? ;)

These pictures are very special pictures....for a very cool project Ms. Kara has been working on...

Who wants to take a guess at what it is???

What about now?

Still have no clue do you?? Okay Okay Okay..she recorded her first CD! I can't wait to see the cover of it..I'll be sure to post it if I can..I've heard this girl sing, and she reminds me a lot of Mandy Moore aka Tangled (at our house any ways)! Not only is she cute, but she's talented. Double trouble..watch out internet...watch out.

P.S. I pinky promise (that stuff is legit) we did not see this until we were leaving! Oops!!!

Updates, Good Books & a Wedding... | Cache Valley Photographer

Okay, so I figured before life picks up, or I start reading another really good book, I'd better blog this wedding from December. Tee Hee!  BUT, before I do, there's a few things we need to discuss.

1) This post is going to have A LOT of pictures. & I mean A LOT.

2) For those of you who follow me on instagram, or are friends with me and Facebook, I'm sorry for repeating this story about last week's trip to the ER for Emma's poor eye. BUT those of you who don't, this will be a new quick little mention of it.  :)   When I saw her last Tuesday morning, her eye was nearly swollen shut. I told her, 'Oh, Emma, your poor eye'! and she replied pointing to her left eye, 'it's okay mommy, this one still works'..She's such a good sport. I could really learn something from her. Hmph...Well, her swelling is almost gone and her coloring is almost normal! Wahoo!  She ripped her scab off last night after she 'went to bed'...little stinker!

She's back to dressing herself and being oh so happy! I love that girl more than ANYTHING.

I don't normally include personal pictures on my photography blog, BUT if you keep reading you'll find out why I'm in a time 'crunch'.

3) Good Books. Oh how I LOVE to read. About this time last year, I did a Rock it or Roll It post on a recent favorite book and I didn't get much time to read again until just the last few weeks. Oh me, Oh my! Need a good book? Touch of Power   AND   The STUDY Series, are absolutely amazing. Touch of Power IS my new favorite book, and it will be hard for any other to top it! Maria Snyder has easily become one of my favorite authors, and I just purchased another one of her series....that is why I do not have time for 2 blog posts..Emma only naps for a limited amount of precious time!!!  ;)

Now, onto the wedding. December 22nd. Also, my anniversary. Also, the best day of the year. AND it's only 3 days away from Christmas. Score right?!  Mandi Marshall was so awesome to come help me with second shooter. She's just starting to venture into the photography business world! So exciting. I LOVE photog friends!!

Gorgeous! Gorgeous flowers!!!

LOVE the back of her dress!!

The bride and her dad broke out into a choreographed routine during their daddy daughter dance. It was pretty fantastic if I do say so myself!!!

The lucky ones who caught the garter and bouquet!

Hands down, one of the most fun weddings I have ever attended. If only I could go back and do mine over, I'd probably steal a few ideas from these guys...they know how to party!  Thanks again to Mandi Marshall for all your great work and help! I really do appreciate it!!

Wilcox Family | Northern Utah Family Photographer

So this winter has been pretty lame. & I've loved every second of the snowless sunshine. It finally snowed about a week ago and I'm so over winter. Ready for spring...who's with me? So in the spirit of moving on, I'm going to blog from a fall session...I'm a little backwards. I know. What gives?!

This family was not only on the extreme ends of handsome and drop dead gorgeous, but so much FUN!!

Am I the only one who thinks someone did a casting call for the perfect looking family and got these guys to fill the spots?!

I want you guys to get ready, for one of the world's cutest little guy's EVER. His smile makes me giggle and grin. How could it not? He also has a very awesome name...the same name I plan to name a boy if I ever have one, and if I can get my husband to 'agree' (like the parenthesis)? LoL. BUT, that name is a secret...unless of course you know or are a member of this family.

And the other cutest little guy ever...in the same family. Go figure. I loved watching him interact with his dad. Mastercard...watch out...talk about priceless!

Okay, so this is killer eyes, hair, skin and bod Brooke with her husband, who reminds me of some rocker from a band who's name I don't know. Not a bad thing. Unless it's N*sync, I won't remember the band name, end of story. Haha I'm only kidding. Kind of. ;)   I'm crossing my fingers I get to do a creative shoot with her this winter before the photography 'season' picks up again..keep your fingers crossed for me, and keep an eye out for the session to be posted/blogged!

This momma-sita has 4 kids. I repeat FOUR children. That's 4 as in f.o.u.r.   I know exactly what you're thinking, and I couldn't agree more. SO. NOT. FAIR.

Wilcox family, you were awesome, and I'm so glad I got to meet all of your beautiful faces to envy for a long time to come! I hope I get the privilege of taking your photos again! Now, off to do yoga so I can someday, maybe, be half as cute!

About Me

I'm in this for the long haul, and I'm glad you've joined me.
